Matt is a US based documentary filmmaker creating art and digital content around the U.S. and Europe. His juxtaposition between historically informed aesthetics and the often alienated sensibilities of contemporary life give his work its distinct style. The Remnant: The Last Christians of Denmark is an independent documentary exploring the lives, hopes, and challenges of traditional Christian families in one of the world’s most secular nations. I travel to Denmark to meet families, —a farmer and theologian attempting to create intentional Christian Danish community and hosting a local harvest festival, a couple newly arrived from Iceland in search of freedom to raise their family, and a mathematician in a classic Danish townhome, who live with purpose amidst a society which has become cold to the Christian faith. Through intimate interviews, scenes of rural and city life, and a meta-narrative tracing the connection to Kierkegaard and Wagner, I explore Denmark’s spiritual and cultural path.

Escaping Modernity in Vancouver

I journey to the Pacific Northwest with my friend Nathan to see how city life is breaking down under the conditions of the modern world and to see if we can discover lessons on how to live in our present era. Together we explore the worst parts of Vancouver and then venture out into the wilderness to a remote island in the mountains where we discuss purpose, modernity, and finding peace. What are the real reasons The Pacific Northwest is dying and what is killing it?

Lost Gods

LOST GODS is a journey to the heart of faith in northern Europe. In this documentary I explore conversations in Iceland and Norway with a prominent pagan historian whose provocative ideas challenge both Christianity and modernity itself.

Along with an influencer from America and a theologian from Denmark, we look for meaning and the heroic spirit in the disenchanted world of modernity.

Does the rise of Germanic heathenry herald a spiritual, moral, and aesthetic rebirth in the north?

As a Christian drawn to ancient traditions and the sagas of old, I set out to understand the profound resurgence of paganism, and whether the future of Western spirituality might lie in a deeper understanding of ancestral religion, myth, and identity.

Traversing breathtaking landscapes and powerful historical sites, this documentary captures intimate dialogues exploring how Christianity and paganism intersect, diverge, and perhaps better strengthen each other on a path forward.
